Rock Island Rocks, I've got to hand to the city and race organizers this was a great event. Our race was wild and dangerous. 45th out of 87 or 88. No good excuse today. Lots of diving into corners. One of my Iowa buddies, the same one who went down yesterday Bryan Mortiz crashed again today. One of the downed riders actually bounced off my shoulder and I could hear the carnage in my wake. I got away on a break with Bryan with 6 laps of the 24 to go. We only stayed away for a lap and a half and he wrecked with 4 laps to go. I knew where to start the sprint, as directed by teammate Matt P. Which was the straight before the last two corners. But all 72 of the rest of the riders who were still in it had the same idea. The announcer was going nuts. It must of been quite a sight seeing 72 riders coming around the final turn sprinting with everything they've got. It was an unbelievable experience, Everyone needs to do those races, if for nothing else than to be appreciated a little as a racer. The streets were packed with spectators, all cheering, in fact on our parade lap everyone stood up and clapped for us continuously for the entire lap. It made 45th just a little easier to take. I showed our average speed as 26.6. It was fast, very fast, right from the gun.
